Pinpoint: Nearly 100 Years of Making Opportunities Connect
Companies come and go. Some seem to be around for a couple of months and others look like they will never go away. Some are 1 man (or woman) shops, others employ thousands of people. Some serve their local communities and others are truly global entities. One thing is true of all companies though, they are always changing. Today we wanted to share the history of our company and give you an inside look at all of the different areas we do business.
Pinpoint has been around for almost 100 years, beginning as Cambridge Telephone Company back in 1918 as the local phone provider for residents in Cambridge and Bartley. In the 1980’s and 90’s Pinpoint Communications was formed as a subsidiary of Cambridge Telephone. It is here that we began to deploy cable TV, Internet, and Mobile Phone services to southwest Nebraska. In 2000, Pinpoint received CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) status which allowed us to bring our services to other parts of the state. In 2009, Pinpoint began its first expansion into fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks by building out our home communities of Cambridge and Bartley. This project was one of the earliest all-fiber networks for residential use in the country!
Pinpoint now owns and manages several communications companies and employs nearly 150 people across the country. Below is an overview of our companies and what each of them is currently working on:
BLAZE wireless
BLAZE wireless serves residents and business throughout southwest Nebraska with wireless data, cell phone service, home/business internet and home/business phone service. BLAZE utilizes an all-wireless network that is currently being upgraded to 4G capabilities in all areas outside of McCook and 4G LTE inside of McCook. This upgrade will create an even more reliable and faster internet connection for all of our customers. This upgrade is being completed by in-house Pinpoint crews and we are very proud of the work they have done.
Cambridge Telephone Company
Cambridge Telephone Company continues to serve the residents of Cambridge and Bartley with reliable home phone service and unbeatable internet. Cambridge Telephone Company is located on Main Street in Cambridge and serves as the headquarters and anchor for the entire Pinpoint company.
Gfiber Powered by Pinpoint
Gfiber is Pinpoint Communications’ latest FTTH expansion. Gfiber has a dual purpose name: G for Gothenburg, the town this network will serve; and G for Gigabit, the top speed customers can get from the network. The new network is currently under construction and should be completed in early 2015. We are proud to have recently opened up our new Gothenburg office and have begun to hire local staff as well.
Nevada Broadband Networks
Nevada Broadband Networks will serve hospitals, non-profits, large enterprises, government agencies, and other communications companies with its all-fiber backbone in the state of Nevada. This new network will connect Las Vegas to Reno and will serve many of the communities in between. Currently under construction, this network is projected to be completed in 2015. There is already a large amount of interest in the network from potential customers.
Pinpoint Broadband
Pinpoint Broadband serves other communications companies and large enterprises with a fiber backbone network. This network stretches from Denver to Chicago and provides high bandwidth Internet and fiber solutions in several states. Currently, Pinpoint Broadband is building out a fiber network in Omaha to lease to large businesses and organizations for private networks. This network should be completed in the spring of 2015.
Pinpoint Communications
Pinpoint Communications continues to be a leader in communication solutions throughout Nebraska. Pinpoint Communications provides cable TV, IPTV, Internet, and phone service to businesses and residents across the state. Pinpoint Communications continues to add fiber–to-the-farm networks in Southwest Nebraska and recently launched Gfiber in Gothenburg.
Pinpoint Services
Pinpoint Services houses our project management, design and towers teams. Pinpoint Services designs and constructs networks all across the country. Our tower teams upgrade and modify towers for major carriers nationwide.
Xcelerate Broadband
Xcelerate Broadband serves the residents around Lake Sinclair in Georgia with Internet, video and phone service. Xcelerate is currently building an all-fiber network that will be capable of Internet speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second.
